About Dr Julie Durnan
What I Am
I am a licensed doctor of naturopathic medicine with all of the experience, knowledge, and credentials that come with the title. I usually describe myself as a naturopathic physician, but like most women, I’m so much more than a single title. I’m also a natural health expert for women and children, an organic mama, and I like to get crafty with medicine in the garden and in the clinic.
Make an appointment to see me in my clinic, read my books, ask me a question, or subscribe to my blog to see for yourself.

Who I Am
I don’t just talk the talk. I walk the walk by thinking differently about healthy living and eating for the entire family, using plants as medicine, and living our ideal lives.
I am the kind of doctor who…
- Lives my message.
- Leads with her heart in food, medicine, and children.
- Shows up early and leaves you with a positive perspective and a clear program to follow.
- Prescribes delicious plants instead of drugs.
- Thinks that playing at the beach should be a class at school.
And I’m the kind of mama who feeds her children real food, plays with them outdoors, and gives them preventative medicine. They don’t always like it, but they take it anyway.
What I Believe
I run my clinic, my family, my life, and this website by following a specific set of philosophies:
- I believe in eating clean food.
- I believe in delicious medicine.
- I believe there is a plant for every ailment on earth.
- I believe in carefully crafted medicines grown from the earth.
- I believe that our children are our best teachers.
How I Got Here
What’s my full story? Here’s the long version of how I got here with you today.
It Started with Some Air and Water Quality Tests.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in environmental science at age 22 and went to work right away as a consultant with a progressive environmental agency. I spent my early 20s testing air and water quality in toxic homes, schools, and workplaces, and during that time, I met many very sick people. I saw firsthand how they suffered because they couldn’t find treatment. Without treatment, they couldn’t get well.
Toxic People Moved Me to Action.
I discovered a huge gap. We were testing the air in people’s homes, and they were sick. They knew why, but they didn’t know what to do. Conventional methods weren’t working, and these people were not getting better. They had low immune function. They were suffering from neurological problems. They were dealing with hormonal imbalances. In short, they were toxic.
I Needed to be Part of the Solution.
I discovered that naturopathic medicine, unlike other medical models out there, acknowledged the trouble with toxicity and offered treatments that strengthened immune systems and improved many of the ailments these people were suffering from. In fact, I learned that naturopathic medicine can help a wide variety of health problems among adults and children. I’d found my passion.
I Earned My Degree and Put My Passion into Practice.
I studied to become a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver, Canada. Over the past decade in practice, I have discovered that those toxins I worked with many years ago are the same ones that are impeding women’s fertility and affecting children’s health. Now, I dedicate my naturopathic medical practice in North Vancouver to the natural methods that enhance fertility and allow for easy pregnancies, healthy babies, and vibrant children.
